Every generation has its definitive boy brands. In the 80’s and early 90’s, bands like New Kids On the Block (NKOB) ruled the roost while Gen Z grew up listening Big Time Rush and the like.

Of course, not every boy band made it big. Many sank without a murmur. However, those who became successful stirred nothing less than hysteria.
Well, as a salute to the teen spirit, we’ve compiled a list of top 12 boy bands.

1. 5ive

 



A British boy band, 5ive came onto the music scene around the late 90’s. “When the Lights Go Out” was their first big hit and, boy, it was one hell of a catchy song Thanks to it, they got a cameo in a Disney Channel Original movie.

2. All-4-One

 

 

Is there anyone who was in the middle school in 90’s and didn’t listen to All-4-One’s biggest hit, “I Swear”? This song ran on MTV day in day out for months. Unlike many other boy bands, which didn’t last for more than a few years, All-4-One went on to release their 20th anniversary album in 2015.

 

3. Big Time Rush

 


Big Time Rush didn’t last for more than 5 years, but during that time they produced some great pop music. Perhaps their first major single “Big Time Rush” was their best song ever. Some other very popular compositions of theirs were “24/seven”, “Any kind of Guy”, “Beautiful Christmas”, “Epic”, and “Music Sounds Better With U (feat.Mann)”.

 

4. Westlife

 



This boy band had a great, although a short, run. This Irish band is best known for their hugely-popular single “Uptown Girl”. For some reasons, the band couldn’t impress the U.S. audience, even though it was immensely popular in the UK. The only single that was a hit in the U.S. was “Swear it again”.

 

5. Menudo

 

 


The most popular Latin boy band ever, Menudo was where Ricky Martin started his career. This band came together in the 70s and was playing, although with fluctuating members, till 2009. Menudo released several albums during their career and have had their own movie and TV series.

6. The Wanted

 


Formed in 2009, The Wanted is a British boy band which became an instant hit in the UK. However, it was only in 2012 that they became popular in the U.S., thanks to their immensely successful single “Glad You Came”. The band members went on hiatus in 2014 but have promised its fans they will produce music together once again. We’re patiently waiting…

 

7. Take That

 



Touted as one of the best British boy brand, Take That has some amazing hits to their name, such as “Relight My Fire”, “Everything Changes”, “Never Forget”, “Could it Be Magic”, “A Million Songs”, and “How Deep Is Your Love”.

 

8. New Kids On The Block (NKOB)

 



This list wouldn’t be complete without this band, which ruled the boy brands space for years, starting from late 80’s. Referred as the OG of modern boy bands, the group comprised of Danny Wood, Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, and Joey McIntyre. The group called it quits in 1994. However, they came together once again much later and in 2011 toured with the Backstreet Boys. As you may have guessed, this tour was a great success.

 

9. NSYNC

 



Formed in 1995, this iconic band sang their way to fame with songs such as “Bye Bye Bye” and “I Want You Back”. The group lasted only 7 years, but if they were to come together again, we’re sure there would be a huge implosion on Facebook and other social media sites.

 

10. The Backstreet Boys

 


 

Did you know that The Backstreet Boys album Millennium sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide within the 1st week?

Formed in 1993, BSB took some time to release their first album, which came out in 1996. They had an amazing run and are regarded as one of the most famous boy bands ever. Their 2013’s reunion tour simply took the world by storm.

11. One Direction

 


 

The band shot to fame with Up All Night, their first studio album. 1D appeared on The X Factor in 2010 and was good for next several years. However, Zyan broke the heart of millions of 1D fans when he left the group in 2015. The band is presently on a break, but if they were to come together, something which the fans are still hoping for, then that will one hell of a reunion.

12. The Jackson 5

 

 


The granddad of all boy bands, the Jackson 5 introduced Michael Jackson to the world. The band came together in the 60s, and has several hit albums to its name. The Jackson 5 has its own animated series and performed on many television programs. After the death of the King of Pop in 2009, the other four brothers, Marlon, Jackie, Jermaine, and Tito did the Unity Tour in the honor of their genius brother.
