What Vinyl Lovers Are Listening to This Year?

Every year vinyl enthusiasts are growing handsomely in number and 2018 has proved to be no different. At this halfway stage one clear trend has emerged: vinyl lovers are buying just as many classic records as latest releases.

The most popular record so far in the top vinyl countdown is Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, the newest album of Arctic Monkeys. It has sold 30,000 copies on vinyl, much more than the second album in the list, Rumors, a 1977 classic from Fleetwood.

Sitting pretty at number 3 is the all-time Pink Floyd popular album—and my personal favorite—The Dark Side of the Moon. Released first in 1973, the first pressing of The Dark Side of the Moon also features in the list of most expensive Vinyl albums ever. If you ever find a first pressing in a mint condition, consider yourself very lucky. It can easily make you richer by several thousands of dollars—a tempting reason to go crate digging this weekend, what do you say?

Other notable vintage albums in the list are Nirvana’s Nevermind (6th position), David Bowie’s Legacy (10th position), Queen’s Greatest Hits (19th position), Beatle’s SGT Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (25th position), and Led Zepplin’s Four Symbols (39th position).

If you love old rock music and 90’s rock as much as I do, I’m sure you would be feeling awesome at seeing so many popular bands of the last century in the list. (Though, it’s a shame Radiohead couldn’t find a place in there.)

The Top Singles So Far

As far as vinyl singles are concerned, It’s A Beautiful World by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds is at the top position while Led Zepplin’s Rock And Roll is placed second. Just like in the list of top 40 albums, here too there’s a healthy mix of new and old tracks.

Among the more famous oldies featuring in the list are, Beauty And The Beast & Let’s Dance by David Bowie in the 4th and 5th position, respectively, Nothing Compares 2 U by Prince in the 7th position, Say Hello Wave Goodbye by Soft Cell in the 12th position, Lazy Sunday by Small Faces in the 23rd position, and Mannish Boy by Hendrix in the 29th position.

Kylie Minogue’s this year release, Dancing, is in the 9th position while U2’s 2017 single Lights of Home is in the 11th place.
